Meet the Pastor

The Reverend Joshua W. Gyson was called to serve All Saints Lutheran Church in July 2016.

Pastor Josh is a recent graduate from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg. His seminary studies focused on Church in Society and Ecology & Theology. During seminary he worked with multiple congregations in Maryland and Pennsylvania, leading worship, preaching and offering pastoral care. His internship year was spent studying under the Reverend Aaron Erdley at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE.

During his senior year of studies, he walked with the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church in Grantville, PA as they closed their doors after 190 years of ministry. Prior to seminary, Pastor Josh worked as a Restaurant Manager and Training Specialist.  His undergraduate degree is from Western Michigan University, where he majored in Philosophy and Ethics.

Joshua and his wife, Sara, bring with them in ministry three young children. Growing up in Michigan, they are new to the Tampa area, but spent near 10 years on Anna Maria Island, FL before attending seminary. Joshua attributes going to seminary to his home congregation pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Holmes Beach, FL.

When asked about his call story he says, “My call to ministry began at 12 years old when two different pastor’s wives asked me one summer if I had ever thought of being a pastor.  I guess I reminded them of their husbands.  I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not! But all joking aside…always remember that, when God is in charge, what you say and do has a longer lasting impact on others than you could ever imagine.”

Pastor Josh currently serves on the Bishop’s Deacon Oversight Committee. New to ordained ministry in the Florida-Bahamas Synod of the ELCA, he says, “I hope to meet the needs of the community, as I discover the many challenges and blessings that are here. I ask God to help and guide me.”
